The five checks that matter more than the name
- Say it aloud on a phone call. If you have to spell it twice, members will not find you. “How did you hear about us?” should never be answered with a shrug.
- Search it first. Google the name plus your city. Check for existing gyms, trademarks (big chains defend theirs), and whether the Instagram handle and a .in or .co.in domain are free.
- Leave room to grow. “Rohini Powerlifting Den” is a problem the day you add Zumba — or a second branch in Pitampura.
- Match the name to the members you want. Beast Mode and The Fitness Atelier attract different people at different price points. Pick the crowd first, then the name.
- Register it properly. The name goes on GST registration, the signboard, UPI, and — once you are running — your member invoices and WhatsApp receipts, so lock the same name everywhere.
After the name comes the boring part
